There has been talk about a potential Top Gun sequel being made, ever since the hit movie was released, way back in 1986 but we have still yet to see any real progress on Top Gun 2. The death of the late great Tony Scott, who directed the first Top Gun movie, led to many to believe that a Top Gun 2 film would now be laid to rest, along with the Hollywood legend.
However, movie mogul Jerry Bruckheimer has insisted that they are still working on getting Top Gun 2 off the ground, with Tom Cruise widely expected to reprise his role as Maverick. Now, actor Val Kilmer, who played the role of Iceman in Top Gun, has admitted that he has been asked about returning for Top Gun 2, something which he could never say no to.
Kilmer has now taken to his official Facebook page to tell his fans and followers, "I just got offered #topgun2 - not often you get to say "yes" without reading the script... "It's starring Gene Hackman..." "Yes" "The director is Francis Coppola..." "Yes!" They aren't involved in this production. These are examples of what an actor says yes to- like Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise!!! "Yes.""
It continued, "We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met in the film biz, but let's fire up some fighter jets again!!! This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role. I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun... An innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent..."
For now, it does seem like Top Gun 2 could still be a very long way away but, if they can get the script completed ASAP and get the cast and crew on board, we are hopeful that we could yet actually see Top Gun 2 hit the big screen.
