While it is fair to say that comic book movie fans were not even going to give the Fantastic Four reboot movie a chance, before the film was even released, we did decide to give it the benefit of the doubt and, much like the rest of the world, we hated it. There was not a single good thing to say about the Fantastic Four reboot but, if you had to try to pinpoint anything, it would probably have to be the performance of Toby Kebbell as Victor Von Doom in the first part of the film.
With that said, even the performance of Toby Kebbell was not amazing, not that it was his fault entirely, as he had a poor script to work with and the directing was clearly not good either. With that said, Toby has now come out to talk about the huge flop that is the Fantastic Four, giving his views on the things that went wrong and the things that needed to happen to make the film a success.
Kebbell explained, "I was disappointed, but the fans aren't wrong. The fans want what they want to see and if they don't get satisfaction, they let you know. I appreciate that as a performer. My job is to come in and perform as best I can, and hopefully be directed in that path, and I felt like I was. I felt like the film was going to go well. It didn't turn out that the fans felt that way, so their reaction is honest, I can only appreciate honesty."
He added, "As an actor, you're conscious that your career is at stake with each job, especially on these larger productions. A film like that comes out, and I'm being sent maybe four scripts in a week, and those scripts go to zero when it doesn't come out successful, so that actively affects my career. I think it's vitally important that if there's a problem on set, that it's voiced and we solve it there and I think that collaboration is very important. Not to say that didn't happen on set, but the collaboration is vital and if we don't do that, then we suffer."
Now that the Fantastic Four reboot has become a huge flop, it really is difficult to see what Fox can do with the franchise. Some people want to see Fantastic Four crossing over with X-Men, while others what to see the characters joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whatever they decide, it is going to take something special to get the Fantastic Four back on track!
