The 30 year old American actor Ryan Merriman closes the year with high satisfaction—he was part of the extremely successful biographical sports film “42”, which was based on baseball legend Jackie Robinson. It managed to garner over $27 million USD in its opening week; no other sports related movie from the past or present has had this type of success. To this day, the film has grossed over $95 million USD worldwide.
The good-looking actor played the role of Dixie Walker: a major league baseball player that played for many teams across the states in the 1930s and 1940s—and who was often referred as “The People’s Cherce”. This was a very important acting role for Ryan, because Mr. Walker was the only baseball player that was, in different time periods, a teammate to the top two baseball players of his time—Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson. The role of Jackie Robinson was portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, who also did a terrific job and surely knew how to bring his character to life.
The film was directed by Brian Helgeland, who also wrote the manuscript. The music was created by New York composer—Mark Isham. Jackie Robinson’s widow was part of the production and was reportedly pleased with the end results. Currently, the film holds a 79% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website, which is quite impressive. Just in case you missed this wonderful film, it’s now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Currently, the green-eyed actor is single and analyzing every acting project that comes his way. He is very selective when it comes to films and only chooses roles that touch his heart. No wonder he established himself in Hollywood at a young age!
