In the past with our One to Watch section, we have brought you some young and talented stars who have already worked on at least a handful of projects, showing that they have what it takes to go on to enjoy a long and successful career in their chosen industry. Today though, we bring you someone who is still very much a novice but who we still believe has all the attributes required to become a top star.
When it was revealed that Steven Spielberg was making a live-action adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl tale The BFG, a lot of people gave their opinions on which young actress should land the lead role of Sophie in the new film. However, nobody could have guessed that the British actress Ruby Barnhill would land the role, as she is very much unknown to most people around the world.
With that said, Ruby Barnhill has appeared in the UK children's television series 4 O'Clock Club, playing the role of Isobel in six episodes of the show, before landing the life changing role of Sophie in The BFG, working with some of the biggest and best names in Hollywood. We have only seen clips and trailers from the movie so far but we have no doubt that Ruby can more than hold her own and will enjoy a long-lasting career in Hollywood.
While Ruby Barnhill takes on the role of Sophie in The BFG, Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance gives his take on the titular character. Steven Spielberg has directed The BFG, based on the screenplay that Melissa Mathison adapted from the Roald Dahl tale, with the movie set to hit the big screen on July 1 in the US and July 22 in the UK.
