It has been reported that Nicolas Cage has signed up to play the lead role in the thriller Tokarev, which is set to begin production later this year. In fact, it has been claimed by The Hollywood Reporter that Nicolas was instrumental in the decision over who will direct Tokarev.
That task has been given to Spanish director Paco Cabezas, whose credits include The Appeared and Neon Flesh. Paco will direct Tokarev, based on the screenplay which has been developed by Sean Keller and Jim Agnew.
Nicolas Cage is set to play a man who has returned home from a stint inside, to find that his daughter has been kidnapped by Russian gangsters. This leads the reformed criminal to get together his old gang and go in search of the people responsible for kidnapping the girl.
Tokarev is expected to begin shooting in May in Spokane, Washington and is looking to be released on November 11 this year. Meanwhile, Nicolas Cage lends his voice to the character Grug in The Croods, which is set to be released on March 22 in both the US and the UK.
