There has been a lot of talk about the lack of diversity in Hollywood for the past few months now, especially after seeing the lack of diversity with the nominations at the Oscars back in January. This resulted in a lot of stars speaking out about the issue, insisting that something needs to be done about it and some changes need to be put in place to give more diversity to the industry.
Now though, The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar has spoken out to claim that, while the movie industry might be lacking from diversity, the same cannot be said for the small screen. Kunal said that it is a good time for US television, when it comes to roles for actors of an ethnic background, as there are so many opportunities on the small screen at the moment.
Nayyar was chatting to Digital Spy, when he explained, "If you look around anywhere in the world, it's a diverse world we live in. And it's nice to be in the position that I can promote that. Not that I'm a spokesperson for Asian diversity but it is a wonderful time we're living in."
He added, "There's a lot more roles, there's a lot more directors and artists that are coming from these communities and I get to do that for a living. In the U.S., it's a wonderful time for all of us. Not only Indians. All sorts of ethnic minorities are being allowed to showcase their talents. It's a wonderful time to be there."
As far as his own acting career is concerned, as well as continuing in his role as Raj in The Big Bang Theory, Kunal Nayyar also has a number of new movie projects lined up for the coming years.
