When it comes to the American boxing scene, it had been far too long since the USA had a heavyweight boxing champion, until Deontay Wilder came along and captured the WBC heavyweight title. Many feel that Deontay can dominate in the heavyweight division for many more years to come but there are some young and talented amateur prospects ready to come through and prove themselves in the pro ranks.
First up we have the very talented 23-year-old Joshua Temple, who has enjoyed an impressive amateur career to date, winning the USA National Championships in 2014. Unfortunately, earlier this year, Joshua failed to get passed the second round at the World Championships, although he still hopes to make the Olympic team for Rio 2016. If Temple does not make the cut, we expect him to turn pro, with an eye on making his way towards a future world title.
Next up is the supremely talented 19-year-old boxing star Darmani Rock, who has been hugely impressive in his amateur career so far, with many people even going as far as to compare him to Muhammad Ali. A lot of people are already tipping Darmani to win Super Heavyweight Gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which will see him becoming one of the most wanted boxers by the biggest and best promoters in the world. This guy really could be the real deal.
Finally we have 16-year-old Richard Torrez Jr., who is one of the most talented youth talents in boxing. Richard has shown a huge amount of potential already and, f he keeps progressing, he has a huge chance of becoming a boxing great. The 2016 Olympics are a bit too soon for Richard but he has his sights set on 2020. With that said, Torrez is also a talented football player, as well as keeping his feet on the ground, saying he wants to train to become an engineer.
These are three of the most exciting, young American boxing talents in the amateur ranks, when it comes to the heavyweight division, and we believe that all three have the potential to go on and enjoy success professional boxing careers. Watch this space!
