Skier Julia Mancuso has the opportunity and ability to become the media “face” of the 2014 United States Olympic alpine team but to do so she must return to her winning ways. This week she graced the cover of the December 2013 issue of Health magazine and is becoming of great interest to media outlets as they identify the athletes who can be the stars of the upcoming 2014 Sochi Olympics.
When one thinks of Julia Mancuso it seems as if she has always been in the shadows of her more accomplished teammate Lindsay Vonn. In 2012 Julia Mancuso was fourth overall in the World Cup Alpine standings, three spots behind Lindsay Vonn. Now, in 2014 the opportunity to become the sole focus of attention for the US female Olympic ski team exists for Julia Mancuso also known as “Super Jules”.
Unfortunately for Julia her results so far in the 2013-14 World Cup Alpine season have been disappointing. She has raced 10 times this season and her best finish is twelfth. The Sochi Olympics is only two months away so she must return to her winning ways soon or she will miss out on a great opportunity to become the face of US skiing in 2013-14.
Life is about seizing the opportunity when it presents itself. The opportunity for Julia Mancuso to prove to herself, her sponsors and her competitors that she is the best skier in the world and is deserving of the media spotlight has been placed in front of her but she must grab it with both hands and the only way for her to do this is to win on the slopes at the World Cup events. The 2014 Alpine season and the upcoming Olympics is available for the taking by Julia Mancuso, the only question is whether she will take advantage of the opportunity to become the US Olympic media darling of 2014.
