Halle Berry was recently photographed shopping for luxury fashion and house magazines in Los Angeles and her appearance sparked conversation about how over the past several years she has not received a script or been in a project that is equal to her superb but incredibly underrated acting ability.
In 2015 she will return to her starring role in the television series "Extant" and also will star in the thriller movie "Kidnap" opposite Lew Temple and Dana Gournier. The television series was brought back for a second season but struggled with ratings and some entertainment observers consider the medium as one that limits how 'far' an actress can push the boundaries of a character.
The movie is a thriller which some entertainment professionals predict she will make a box office hit but the issue is whether it will force her to expand her acting range and show a different aspect of herself to viewers.
Early in her career she left some movie critics amazed with her sensational femme fatale performance in "The Rich Man's Wife" (1996) in which she played a complex, flawed character. Her performance as a crack addict in the film "Jungle Fever" (1991) still brings smiles to her fans and some critics as does her masterful scene-stealing performance opposite Eddie Murphy in the movie "Boomerang".
However, since her Academy Award winning performance in "Monster's Ball" she has been in several movies that were successful at the box office such as "X-Men: Days of Future Past" but has not had a movie project that provided her a character with which she could 'shock and impress' viewers in the view of some entertainment observers and her loyal fans.
The movie "Kidnap" will likely provide her the ability to connect to parents and be a success at the box office, but Halle Berry thr Hollywood leading lady is deserving of a project that also allows her to surprise and impress viewers.
It is time for one of Hollywood's best actresses to get a script which allows her to portray a beautiful, strong, intelligent, talented, complicated and flawed woman.
Will 2015 be the year that the talented actress Halle Berry finds or receives a script commensurate with her Academy Award winning talent is a question that is on the mind of some entertainment observers and fans who hope that this is still not a question in 2016.
