There has been plenty of talk about the lack of strong female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the years, which led to the studio making sure that they introduced more female superheroes since then. One character who impressed in her debut, was Hope Van Dyne, played by the beautiful and talented actress Evangeline Lilly.
In Ant-Man we only really get to see Evangeline Lilly in the role of Hope Van Dyne, although we do get introduced to The Wasp costume at the very end of the film, much to the delight of the character. Well, it is not only the character who is delighted about becoming The Wasp, as Evangeline has also admitted that she is very excited about playing a female superhero.
During a recent interview, Lilly explained, "I think that there is a lot of excitement with the female audience about this character in general, and about the fact that Marvel are really, really taking female characters very seriously. Looking at their line-up, you can see that they have great intentions."
She added, "As a woman who came into a predominantly male film, I had a great time working with the director, Peyton Reed, and with the producers on this character because I could see a hunger in them to really do right by Hope. I know they want to do right by their female fans and the female audience."
We will finally get to see Evangeline Lilly actually playing the role of The Wasp, when the planned Marvel movie Ant-Man and The Wasp hits the big screen, with a planned release date of July 8, 2016
